About the Artist

Howdy! I am a fiber and textile artist/educator. Originally from Texas, but now I reside in Colorado. I achieved my BFA from Texas Tech University focusing on jewelry design and metalsmithing in 2014. In 2020, despite the global pandemic, I achieved my MFA from Kent State University focusing on textiles. I have shown work in Japan, Poland, and across the United States. I currently teach fiber arts at Washington Heights Art Center in Lakewood, CO.

My research is focused on materiality; our symbiotic relationship to the environment; spirituality and human rituals; liminal spaces and duality.

My weavings are a result of communicating with my chosen materials. Within the boundaries of the warp, yarn speaks in its own language, forges paths and I follow. The imagery is abstract and symbolic, representing the internal dialogue I have about the mysteries of life. The works are narrative without being figurative, aiming to push the viewer toward introspection and to make meaning out of abstraction.

My soft sculptures are textured and layered forms mimicking fungi, nests, cocoons, and webs. They draw on themes of liminal spaces and reflect on the idea of duality, or two forces constantly in tandem with each other, such as birth and death cycles. The resulting forms I manipulate with stitching, binding and embellishment.

The Diana Ruth Designs brand consists of limited release wearables and collections for the home. The works I create are inspired by my travels, particularly when I lived in Japan, my Lithuanian heritage and the landscape surrounding me. I aim to craft garments that are comfortable, eclectic and one of a kind. They are heirloom quality for your personal curated collection. Works for the home should help express your personality and bring you joy. Custom pieces are welcome and encouraged!
